All other things being equal we all long for simple architectures and protocols. Yoid is not simple and I'm not going to pretend that it is. It constitutes a whole new layer in the architecture and comes with a number of new protocols. Nevertheless, I believe it can have a simplifying effect on the state of affairs in internet multicast and distribution overall. With yoid in place, we could jettison all of the inter-domain aspects of IP multicast--the routing protocols and the address assignment stuff. Many of the current ad hoc or proprietary server-based distribution technologies could also be replaced by yoid, making IT's life simpler. So while yoid may not be simple, it may very well be simpler than the alternatives.
